Selling an Old Car: Buyer and Pickup Questions
Selling an old car? Confirm the buyer, ownership paperwork, sale terms and who pays for pickup. A vehicle purchase and a towing request are separate agreements.
Published by Salt Lake Towing on . Updated .
Before selling an old or non-running car, separate the purchase agreement from the transport arrangements. This guide does not state that Salt Lake Towing buys vehicles or provides free removal. Confirm the buyer and pickup terms directly.
Identify the actual buyer
Ask who is purchasing the vehicle and what paperwork is required. Ownership documents, liens and authorization can affect a sale. Do not hand over keys or title based only on a pickup appointment.
Describe the car accurately
Explain whether it starts, rolls and steers, and disclose damage or missing parts. Include the location, driveway access and whether the keys are available. A vehicle in a garage or on a slope may require different pickup arrangements.
Read the offer and transport terms
Confirm what the offer includes and whether the buyer or seller pays for transport. Ask about possible access or loading charges before agreeing. Do not assume a cash offer, an advertised vehicle value and a free tow are the same arrangement.
Prepare personal items and records
Remove personal belongings when safe and retain the sale and pickup documents. Check the current official requirements for title and registration handling. For an uncertain ownership or legal issue, obtain qualified advice before transfer.
Arrange suitable transport
If a separate tow is needed, give dispatch the condition, pickup access and agreed destination. Confirm available equipment, the current ETA and the full transport price. The towing agreement is separate from any vehicle purchase.
Review towing service for vehicle transport arrangements.
