Navigating Sticky Situations: Towing Stories from the Road

In this blog post, we’ll take you on a journey through some of our most memorable towing stories.

Published by Salt Lake Towing on . Updated .

A flat tire, minor collision and a vehicle that will not start can each leave a driver stranded, but the next step is not always the same. These are common scenarios rather than documented company rescue stories.

A tire problem on a busy road

Assess whether there is a protected place to wait. Do not try to change a tire in an active lane or on an unstable surface. Tell dispatch whether a usable spare is available; without one, transport to a tire shop may be needed.

After a minor collision

Check for immediate danger and injuries before thinking about the vehicle. Follow instructions from emergency responders. Steering, suspension or tire damage may make driving unsafe even when the body damage looks small. Tell dispatch whether the vehicle rolls and where it should go.

A vehicle that will not start

A weak battery is one possible cause, but a jump start will not repair every fault. Mention warning lights, unusual sounds and recent symptoms. Damaged or leaking batteries and vehicle-specific high-voltage systems require particular caution.

Give dispatch a complete request

Describe the exact pickup, vehicle make and model, access restrictions and intended destination. Ask what equipment is suitable, when it can arrive and what the full job costs. Do not assume that roadside help includes mechanical repair, direct insurance billing or passenger transport.

Keep people safe while waiting

Call 911 first for immediate danger, injuries, fire or a person or animal at risk inside a locked vehicle. Keep clear of passing traffic and follow the responders’ instructions about where to wait. Do not enter a live lane to prepare the vehicle.

See towing service or roadside assistance for the appropriate next step.
