A flatbed carries a vehicle with its wheels off the road. That can be appropriate for some disabled, all-wheel-drive, low-clearance or collision-damaged vehicles. The manufacturer's towing instructions and the vehicle's condition determine the method; no transport method provides an absolute damage guarantee.
Drivetrain comes first
Give dispatch the make, model, year and drivetrain. Some vehicles have specific restrictions on which wheels may roll and how tow or transport mode is engaged. Electric and hybrid vehicles may also require model-specific preparation. Consult the handbook rather than assuming every vehicle follows the same procedure.
Clearance and approach
A lowered vehicle, long front overhang or damaged suspension affects the angle of approach. Explain modifications and visible damage before pickup. A garage height restriction or a tight driveway can prevent the truck from reaching the vehicle directly.
A vehicle that cannot roll
Locked wheels, a seized brake or unavailable keys change loading requirements. Do not drag the vehicle with an improvised rope. Dispatch needs this information when checking which equipment is suitable.
Before loading
Remove personal items if it is safe, confirm the destination and record the vehicle's existing condition. Tell the operator about loose parts or leaks. Do not enter an active traffic lane to take photographs or prepare the vehicle.
Ask about the whole trip
Confirm pickup access, receiving arrangements, price and the current ETA. Ask how your particular vehicle will be loaded and secured. A flatbed's platform is useful, but correct preparation and vehicle-specific handling still matter.
For manufacturer-specific requirements, use the vehicle's own handbook or the manufacturer's current towing guidance.
When you need roadside help
For a disabled vehicle or a problem that cannot be handled safely, review towing service. Tell dispatch the pickup location, vehicle details and what happened so equipment and availability can be checked.
