SLC Jump-Start Service: Checking a Winter No-Start Problem

Cold weather can expose a weak battery, but a no-start condition does not identify the fault by itself. Tell dispatch what the vehicle does when you try to start it and use the vehicle's own instructions before attempting a boost.
Describe the symptoms
Mention whether the engine cranks, dashboard lights appear and any clicking or unusual smell. Tell the provider about recent starting trouble, warning lights or accessories left on. A starter, charging-system or other fault may require diagnosis rather than a jump start.
Identify the vehicle
Give the year, make and model and mention an electric or hybrid design. Battery location and approved connection points vary. Do not follow a procedure for a different vehicle or connect equipment to an unidentified high-voltage component.
Inspect only when safe
Do not attempt to jump a battery that is visibly damaged, leaking or frozen. Keep clear of traffic and do not repeatedly try to start a smoking vehicle. Follow emergency instructions if there is fire or immediate danger.
Ask about the appropriate help
Explain access to the pickup and whether the vehicle is in a garage or behind a gate. Ask the provider to confirm suitable equipment and the planned method. No battery or electrical procedure can be described as universally risk-free.
A successful start is not a diagnosis
A vehicle that starts and then stalls or continues to show warnings needs further attention. Driving for a fixed number of minutes is not a reliable substitute for battery charging, testing or diagnosis. Confirm the next step if it cannot be driven safely.
See jump-start information and give dispatch the symptoms and vehicle details before arranging assistance.
