Flatbed Towing Benefits and Vehicle-Specific Loading Checks

A flatbed carries the vehicle on a platform with its wheels off the road. It can be appropriate for some disabled, all-wheel-drive, low-clearance or damaged vehicles, but it does not eliminate every transport risk. The manufacturer's instructions and vehicle condition determine the method.
Drivetrain and transport instructions
Tell the provider the make, model, year and drivetrain. Some vehicles restrict which wheels may roll and how transport mode is engaged. Electric and hybrid designs can have additional model-specific requirements; use the handbook rather than a universal rule.
Loading access
A platform needs room to approach the vehicle. Explain low clearance, modified suspension, damaged wheels and a vehicle that cannot roll or steer. A garage, gate, steep driveway or narrow shoulder can change which equipment is suitable.
Reducing risk during handling
Ask how the vehicle will be supported and secured for its actual condition. Improvised attachment points or loading methods can damage components. No equipment choice promises that the vehicle cannot be scratched or damaged.
Before pickup
Confirm the destination and whether it can receive the vehicle. If safe, remove personal belongings and record existing damage. Do not enter active traffic to inspect or prepare a disabled vehicle. Call emergency authorities first for immediate danger.
Confirm the complete trip
Give dispatch the pickup, vehicle condition and destination, then ask about appropriate equipment, current availability, an ETA and the full price. Discuss access problems before a truck is assigned rather than assuming any flatbed can reach any vehicle.
